May On Pause…
To whom it may interest,
It should go without saying that I don’t write for a living.
My day job as a graphic designer is often syphoning my time and energy, the peaks and valleys of agency life unconcerned with boundaries or any semblance of existence outside the needs of clients. I’m in the throes of a large and important project that is categorized as make-or-break, meaning all hands need to be on deck so the company I work for can secure the business and (maybe) bring on new hires. Economically speaking, since we’re bound to the soullessness of capitalism, it would be a good win.
But, passions tend to suffer during these turbulent periods of pilot programs, financial enrollment, branding relaunches… etc. It’s a tad daunting to realize that life-enriching pursuits seem to be obtainable only by people who don’t need to work. I remember being told that there would be plenty of time outside of work to spend on things I enjoy, the frivolity of artistic and creative pursuits categorized as spare time filler to bookend that “important time” feeding a garbage-in-garbage-out industry. Ironic that I went to art school where I intended to immerse myself in said frivolity just to wind up feeding that machine. I get depressed when I think about it, so I try not to.
Anyway, this is me apologizing for not reading emails, listening to singles, and promoting ACTUAL creativity through my platform. The need to keep the lights on surpasses the want of time to listen and review.
Today is June 3rd. There are still a number of layout and content-addressing things that I would like to apply to the new blog, specifically so I can begin facilitating some visitors. Letters From A Tapehead will never be a tremendously significant resource for music fans, but I’m happy to still contribute to the conversation, steer potential listeners toward some good music both new and old, and continue to defend my bad taste in music.
Sincerely,
Letters From A Tapehead
